1. What is The Tico Way?
The Tico Way is a platform that helps travelers experience the real Costa Rica. We connect you with 100% local businesses—lodges, restaurants, tours, and artisans—so your trip supports the communities you visit.
2. How is this different from a traditional travel agency?
We don’t sell pre-made packages. Instead, we create personalized travel plans based on your interests, budget, and timeline. You always know where your money goes, and it flows directly to local providers instead of big international chains.
3. Do you make the bookings for me?
Yes—if you choose our Premium Plan, we can handle bookings on your behalf. Here’s how it works:

We’ll give you the full breakdown of all payments (lodging, tours, transportation, etc.).

You’ll make a deposit to cover those services.

The Tico Way will then pay each provider directly on your behalf.
👉 Important: The Tico Way is an intermediary, not the provider. We simply organize and process the payments so your money still goes straight into Costa Rican businesses.
4. How do you choose the businesses you recommend?
We carefully select authentic Costa Rican-owned businesses that align with our values: fair pricing, sustainability, and genuine hospitality.
5. Is there a fee for using The Tico Way?
Yes. We charge a planning fee depending on the package you choose. This fee covers the time and expertise needed to build your itinerary, and is separate from the payments to local providers.
6. Can you help with transportation?
Yes! We can recommend or book trusted local drivers, shuttles, or car rentals depending on your travel style.
7. What if I need to cancel my trip?
Each hotel, tour, or experience provider has their own cancellation and refund policy.
- If you booked directly, you are responsible for contacting the providers to cancel.
-If you are on the Premium Plan and chose The Tico Way to manage your payments, we will provide you with the reservation details. All cancellations and refund requests must be made directly with the providers.
-If a refund is approved by the provider, The Tico Way will help you request it. Please note that refunds may be subject to transaction fees from PayPal, banks, or other payment entities, which could reduce the final amount you receive back.

8. Do you only work with tourists from abroad?
Not at all! While many of our travelers come from the U.S., Canada, and Europe, Costa Ricans (ticos) looking to explore new corners of their own country are more than welcome.
9. How do I know my trip will be authentic?
Every experience we recommend is run by Costa Ricans, not large international chains. You’ll meet locals, enjoy traditional food, and explore hidden gems beyond the tourist traps.
